![]() ![]() The game is often challenging, even on easy mode I’ve found, and will take some time to complete. And you won’t understand celebrity cameos like when Markiplier flies in with a fighter jet to save your bacon (he’s another YouTube star with millions of followers). If you don’t, the loads of inside jokes Brofist contains will be completely lost on you, like how his arch-enemy in the game is a collection of angry barrels (barrels have proven to be PewDiePie’s foe in a few games, and have become a meme in his videos). To have any idea of what’s going on, you’ll have to be at least a little plugged into PewDiePie’s world. In some of the early missions, I’ve searched an entire house for PewDiePie’s crew (which includes his girlfriend, two dogs, and pink headphones), then I flew in a jet for an aerial mission, then I had to survive in a closed arena dodging enemies until a train arrived. But level diversity is pretty interesting, as it’s more than just left-to-right stages. The game has you gripping your device like a controller, with simplistic controls for move and jump and powerups the way we seen with many games on mobile. I’ve played many celebrity-inspired mobile games ever since Kim Kardashian made a zillion dollars from her title and everyone else wanted to jump in after, but I held out hope that since PewDiePie is actually a star with deep roots in gaming itself, his attempt at a game might not, you know, be terrible.ĭeveloped by Kjellberg himself and studio Outerminds, responsible for a game called Tadpole Tap and…that’s it, I think, Legend of the Brofist is a retro Mega Man-style platformer that doesn’t reinvent the wheel, but manages to look good, play well, capture PewDiePie’s signature style of humor, and not be exploitative while it does so. Unsurprisingly, it’s raced up to the top of the iOS paid charts with a $5 price tag and a five star average rating across 2600 reviews. ![]()
